AIRPORTS OF ROME: FIUMICINO AND CIAMPINO Rome has two international airports, Fiumicino airport and Ciampino airport. The first is located south-west Rome, the second on the south-east.

The official name of Fiumicino airport is Leonardo Da Vinci, but you will also find it under FCO. Founded in 1961, the airport has increased its traffic every year. To conform to the main international airports worldwide, FCO has recently renamed its terminals: terminal 1, terminal 2, terminal 3 and terminal 5. Leonardo da Vinci lies about 35 kilometers (22 miles) from Rome city centre, which means approximately 40 minutes by car. There are information desks located in all terminals as well as 24 hour cash machines (ATMs), Money Exchange counters and first aid facilities. There are also numerous shops, that sell exclusive quality duty free goods, and many restaurants, cafes and bars. The luggage storage facility is on the Arrivals level of International Terminals and it is open from 07:00 until 23:00. Storage costs approximately € 2.00 for up to 7 hours, € 3.50 up to 24 hours. Large or heavy luggage costs € 6.00 per day. In the event of your baggage being lost, please report immediately to the handling operator indicated on the monitor. Disabled passengers requiring special assistance are advised to notify their airlines beforehand.
Airport switchboard (24 hrs) – 0039 06 65951
If booking airport transfers through romemotion.com, the driver will be waiting by the meeting point, just across customs’ exit.

Ciampino airport is situated 15 km southeast of central Rome and it is addressed as CIA. Between 1960 and 2000 it was mainly used as a commercial and military airport, but after that Ciampino airport has seen increased traffic thanks to the low cost companies. Ciampino airport is open from 04:00 to 24:00. The Arrival Hall is quite small therefore the meeting point, if you have arranged private airport transfers, will be the cafe opposite the main exit.

Romemotion.com is pleased to offer Rome Historical Tour that will start anywhere you wish as long as it is within Rome city centre.
Your english speaking driver will show you magnificent Piazza del Popolo where you will admire the world wide famous obelisk, you will then head towards Piazza di Spagna and feel the atmosphere of being in the most fashionable part of the city. You will pay a visit by the Trevi Fountain, Rome’s baroque jewel, famous for Fellini’s Dolce Vita. According to a traditional legend, if visitors throw a coin into the fountain, they are ensured to return to Rome.
You will drive through Piazza Venezia, a piazza at the foot of the Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio) and near the Roman Forum. It is dominated by the imposing Victor Emmanuel II monument. This is the large central square in the hub of Rome.
You will then enjoy the unique sight of the massive structure of the Colosseum and the Roman Forums driving along the Imperial Forums. According to popular belief it was said that any one putting his hand in this mouth and swearing falsely, could not withdraw it. You will then proceed towards the Tiber Island (Isola Tiberina). This boat-shaped island is well known for being the site of an ancient temple to Aesculapius, the Greek god of medicine and healing. In fact one of the most famous hospitals of Rome is located on the island. You cannot miss Piazza Navona, which is now the pride of Baroque Rome. It has sculptural and architectural creations from the main artists in the world such as Bernini and Borromini.

Despite being a very big city, Rome does not enyoy a very well developed subway line system.
Currently there are two lines only – Metro A and Metro B and those do not even cover the city centre in full.
There are a few interesting projects on the extensions of these lines but nothing has been realized yet.

Therefore, unless you are staying in the rome city centre and can do most of your sightseeing on foot, you might need to catch few buses as well. The BIT ticket costs 1€ and it is valid for 75 minutes. The MULTIBIT ticket costs 5€ and can be used as five different 1€ tickets, even in different days. The BIG ticket costs 4€ and can be used until 24:00 of the day of purchase. It is valid for an unlimited number of journeys up to 24:00 hrs. The BTI ticket costs 11€ and is valid for three days. There are no zones. The ticket will be valid on any line, both bus and metro, except for the private decked buses.

How to reach Rome city centre from Fiumicino airport
The Leonardo Express train – it is a first class only train and connects Fiumicino airport to Rome Termini train station without intermediate stops. Tickets cost approximately euro 14 per person.
Taxi – there are taxis outside the main airport terminals although if you don’t speak the language you may not have the tariff clear, you might not find one available when you need it, you may find an unpleasant line.
Private Transfers – rome airport transfers with a professional, hassle free service, transparency on costs, prebooked service equals no loss in precious time
